Little did you know, that your routine dental cleaning is vital when you have braces in Austin, Texas. This is because even more plaque and food particles can get trapped in the small grooves and crevices around your braces. If those areas don’t get thoroughly and professionally cleaned, there is a good chance you could suffer tooth decay and gum disease. So, make sure you schedule your routine checkup every six months.

When you visit your dental office, you can expect the dental team to welcome you with open arms. They will take good care of you and make you feel as comfortable as possible. After guiding you to the dental chair, the hygienist will take some X-rays of your mouth and will begin a dental cleaning.

The cleaning will involve using special tools to deeply clean the front, back, and chewing surfaces of your teeth. When working around your brackets, they will remove the plaque that has hardened around the hardware. Once the surfaces of the teeth are clean, they will floss the crevices of the smile. They will use a loop-shaped tool to thread the floss through the space between the wire and the teeth. Then they will send the floss between the teeth and scrape each side as well as clean the gum line.

Other than working in and around your braces, which might make your appointment a little longer than usual, you can expect the same cleaning routine that is provided at a typical checkup.
